AUDITION INFORMATION

  • 1–2 contrasting pieces from the classical repertoire; All-State/District audition etudes are acceptable

  • A short demonstration of jazz improvisation* (*optional for students with jazz improvisation skills)

  • 3 or more major and/or minor scales

  • Chromatic scale (full range)

  • Sight reading

*Suggested play-alongs or pre-recorded tracks include Hal Leonard’s “The Real Book” or the Jamey Aebersold series.

SCHOLARSHIPS AND FINANCIAL AID

College of Fine Arts Scholarships are offered to students based on their talent and potential for contribution to the School of Music.  For exceptionally promising musicians, we offer the Dean's Scholarship for Excellence in Music. Recommendations for music scholarships are based on the audition. You are automatically considered for a College of Fine Arts Scholarship when you audition for the School of Music. Since scholarships are offered on a first-come, first-served basis, it is better to schedule your audition earlier in the year rather than later.

Millikin offers more than $20 million annually from its Millikin University Tuition Grants and Scholarships fund. Scholarships and grants are financial aid awards that do not have to be paid back. Scholarships are often based on academic achievement or talent, or financial need, and deadlines and requirements vary. All MU scholarships apply toward tuition only and require full-time enrollment. Available scholarships outside the School of Music include:
